Eryngium planum 'Blaukappe'
This form of sea holly is an herbaceous perennial. Blaukappe means 'blue hat' in German, and accordingly is topped in many vividly coloured blue flowers atop branching stems. These are held over rosettes of shiny dark green leaves with slightly serrated edges. Loved by bees and other insects. The flower stems can be cut or dried or simply left on the plant to provide interest in winter. Best in a well drained soil.
