Salvia buchananii - Buchanan''s Sage or Velvet Slippers
Originally found in a garden in Mexico city, then taken to the UK and named. This species had never been found growing in the wild but was discovered in about 2010 in pine-oak forests in The state of Queretaro, Mexico. This species is unique among salvias with deep green glossy green leaves, these are topped by velvet deep pink flowers up to 5cm long. It is really tough and is herbaceous in really heavy frost.
