Acanthus spinosus - Spiny oyster plant
With the hardiness of A. mollis, but differing with more finely divided leaves that feature grey highlights. Due to the finer leaf dissections, this makes a really attractive and interesting foliage plant, and also throws up flower spikes just to top off the display. Joseph Banks recorded this growing on Madeira (A Portuguese colony off the coast of Africa) in his 1768 voyage on the Endeavour.
