Ratibida columnifera pulcherrima - Prairie Coneflower

The prairie coneflower is a beautiful North America perennial that produces deep burgundy flowers to 70cm tall. The flowers can also have a yellow margin around the petals. This plant grows from a deep taproot and has grey green finely divided foliage which is handsome, even when the plant is not in flower. This plant looks stunning when grown with Echinacea paradoxa which features bright yellow flowers.
